Whist making chocolate mousse, which I was told on...
Mother: How're you doing?
Me: Finished, just washing up.
Mother: Looks nice!
Me: I think I used every single mixing bowl we own!
Mother (disapprovingly): Hmm, well I'd appreciate it if you didn't just leave them lying around!
Me: What does it look like I'm doing?
Mother: Well don't use all the hot water!!
Me (a little later): Oh, I finished the Cointreau by the way.
Mother: What?! How much did you put in?!
Me: Well there wasn't much left.
Mother: I checked yesterday, there was at least 1/4 of a (750ml) bottle!
Me: There was less than 100ml, I measured.
This bottle is probably older than me, and very sticky. It's been on top of the cupboard for at least 15 years and I've never seen anyone touch it. Apparently not leaving a token 20ml in the bottle so it wouldn't be officially "empty" shows my style of cooking (for special occasions!) is too expensive.
I probably won't hear the end of this for a while.
I don’t really understand. I can be ridiculously tired, but as soon as it gets to about 11pm I wake up and can’t sleep again til about 4. Why does this happen?!
been and gone, and it still doesn’t feel like it actually happened yet. our christmas is always a bit weird. following the routine because that’s what we always do. anticlimactic. i often wonder what a big family christmas would be like. 15 or 20 people sat round a table with heaps of food and drink and laughs. i always over estimate and cook way too much for 3. in the future...
roofio, thanks for the follow
That 12 days of Christmas warehouse comic is rather awesome :-) I’ve just finished being Santa for my parents - being an only child they had stockings too when I was younger to keep me company, and it still happens. Except I now end up doing it for them… family Christmas traditions are weird! How’s life at your end? wordsnarwhalshearts: 46 WoOoOoO :DD what’s up??
I wish we could put up some of the Christmas spirit in jars and open a jar of it...– Harlan Miller (via kari-shma) .. although I could do with some now. It doesn’t feel like it ought to be Christmas yet. I’m only just getting round to looking forward to it.

As is tradition in my house, I’m cooking Christmas dinner for me and my parents. Today I went to Waitrose to buy all the stuff. Waitrose is EXPENSIVE. This is why I only shop there for Christmas food. Starter Homemade four mushroom pate (containing button, chestnut, chinese black and oyster mushrooms - stupid Waitrose sold me moldy shitake. I shall go back and complain at them tomorrow)...
Sid's Christmas (chapter one)
It was Christmas Eve in the Fairytale Kingdom. Fred the Invincible Super Snail and Lola his fairysnail girlfriend were sat in front of the fire drinking mulled wine and admiring the beautifully decorated Christmas tree. Sid, Fred’s trusty sidekick, was in his room having an early night. Christmas made him miserable. He didn’t know anything about his family, before he joined Fred all...

i wonder ...
When I have a dream that’s full of people I don’t know, are those people simultaneously having a dream in which I am a stranger?
newmuse: Says a very calm, collected woman in a rather sarcastic voice: “Now if my child needs medical attention over xmas, and we can’t reach anyone because we havn’t got a landline, and they die, I’m not going to be very happy, am I?” My job is weird. That’s the most ridiculous thing ever. Surely if she allows her child to die on principle purely because she doesn’t have a...

It never ends. Everything we’ve lived through is there forever. Mostly it just makes us stronger. But sometimes I wish that there weren’t so many little things that can remind me, and try to drag me back down. I don’t want to go there again.
